MEMBERS JACKPOT AND REWARDS PROGRAM

Lismore Turf Club will introduce two incentives to attract more members to its race meetings.

Although the club has a large membership base many are only casual race goers.

At the last meeting, on University cup day, only 75 members attended and that included their guests.

The first incentive is one many registered clubs use to entice more members through the doors.

A draw will be made at each meeting with a cash prize of $200. However the member whose number comes out of the barrel has to be at the meeting to collect the prize.

If not it will jackpot to the next meeting and will keep jackpotting until it is won.
The club will also introduce a reward program with each member entitled to a free lunch for two in the dining room once they have attended six meetings.

Terms and Conditions can be viewed here.

ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR UNI CUP DAY

The Lismore Turf Club is ready and raring to race on Saturday May 2nd with the running of the 10th Southern Cross University Raceday.

Following the prolonged wet weather that saw the cancellation of the South Lismore Cup Ladies Day on 4th April, the track is now drying out satisfactorily.

"A number of horses did track work on the course proper on Tuesday morning. This is the first time that horses have been allowed on the main track since the Woodlawn Cup in March and all reports were very positive about the condition of the surface" said Secretary/Manager Michael Timbrell.

"With the warm dry weather predicted to continue for the rest of the week, we should be looking at a track rated no worse than dead by Saturday which will allow all horses a fair chance of winning" said Timbrell.

Owners & Trainers have thrown their support behind the meeting with 70 horses nominated for the 5 event program and 21 horses nominated in the feature event, The $5,000 Southern Cross University Cup, a Rating 62 Handicap over 1000 metres.

"We are very happy with the quality of horses nominated for the Uni Cup. Many horses including Acquits, Bonboniere Lady, Border Loop, Easy Kisses, Lady Shadwell & Shinko's Echo have strong TAB form which points towards a very competitive race."

With over 1000 tickets sold to university students & staff already, this award winning day is promising to live up to all expectations.

Lismore Turf Club’s horse racing syndicate is up and running.

The club has bought a tried horse called Tangler and he will be paraded at next Sunday’s (March 1st) Lismore TAB meeting.

Tangler, a four year old, was previously trained at the Gold Coast by Trevor Bailey and has had 14 starts for three wins and five placings. Two of those wins, a Maiden and a Class One, were at Ipswich while he won a Class Two at Caloundra in July last year. The horse has had two starts since a spell including a third at Caloundra two weeks ago. Lismore trainer, Owen Glue, will prepare Tangler.

Lismore Turf Club secretary, Michael Timbrell, said the club was ready to receive expressions of interest from members wanting to take a share. "We have to get the syndicate organised and the paper work completed before he can start," Michael said.

"Tangler is a big, strong horse and ticked all the right boxes. Owen will keep him up to the mark and once the syndicate has been registered and the transfer completed he will be ready to race. Hopefully that will only be a matter of weeks."

Tangler is by Danehill Dancer from the Canny Lad mare Canny Ray and is from the same family as Diamond Shower and Dual Flight.

Near Miss for TAB Race Meeting

It was a near thing but Lismore managed to complete its TAB meeting last Monday week on a sodden race track because of the thick grass cover. The track was rated a heavy nine for the first race but rain then swept across the course and it was down graded to a heavy 10.

Stewards and senior riders inspected the track and deemed it safe and the meeting continued.

"The excellent grass cover saved the day," club secretary, Michael Timbrell, said.
"It held the track together and while it was heavy it was safe and we had no incidents. Our curator, Lesleigh Leisha, has done a fantastic job. She has tried several new ideas and they are all working."

Chief steward Bill Fanning and leading jockey Darron Coleman both agreed the meeting was able to proceed because of the grass cover. "It was an excellent cover and saved the meeting," Fanning said. "That was not the heaviest track I have officiated at but it rates up near the top."

Coleman said it was one of the heaviest he had ridden on. "The grass cover was brilliant which meant we all got through it safely," he said.
