LISMORE RACECOURSE UPDATE

Racing NSW Officials and NRRA Stewards have inspected track conditions at Lismore racecourse to determine the feasibility of racing in the near future.

They have reluctantly concluded that the club's scheduled race meeting for Saturday 21st May will not be able to proceed.

Although the remediation works are substantially complete, it was agreed by the officials present that the root development was not sufficiently advanced to ensure the integrity of the racing surface.

As a consequence the club and stewards are workign with Racing NSW towards the possible change of venue for the program scheduled for 21st May.

The Lismore Turf Club is not scheduled to race again until Saturday 30th July and all possible efforts are being made to ensure a resumption of racing on this date.

For all enquiries contact Michael Timbrell (Secretary/Manager) on 02 6621 3176.

Latest update for Lismore

Racing NSW and Lismore Turf Club officials have inspected the Lismore course in relation to the Christmas Cup meeting this Friday (17th December).

They looked over the track this morning following the working of a horse around the course proper.

Whilst a couple of small patches between the 1200m to 1000m and 100m past the winning post would be rated a 'Slow 7' the vast majority of the track would be given a rating of a 'Dead 5'.

A further inspection may take place later this afternoon should significant rain fall during the day.

Enormous support for Christmas Cup. Race day update.

The Lismore Turf Club has received enormous support from owners & trainers for the Christmas Cup meeting on Friday 17th December with 216 horses entered for the 8 race program.

There has been an amount of conjecture about whether the meeting will go ahead with the recent spate of wet weather. At present the club is hopeful of little rain between now and Friday to allow the meeting to go ahead, however significant rain may place the meeting in jeopardy. The club will be holding a track inspection on Thursday morning at 8.30am with Steward Tim Saladine and club officials to watch a horse gallop on the course proper.

" More than 95% of the tracks surface is in very good condition and would be rated just in the slow range" said Michael Timbrell Secretary/Manager of the Lismore Turf Club. "There are just a couple of small sections which are holding water and remaining very soft which is causing us some concern. We are hopeful that they will improve enough to allow racing to go ahead on Friday".

An update will be given on Thursday morning.
