TAKEOVER TARGET IN LISMORE ON LADIES DAY
The Lismore Turf Club is extremely excited to announce that the great Takeover Target, the former international sprinter nicknamed “The People’s Champion” will be attending the South Lismore Cup Ladies Day on Saturday 10th April as a special guest.
Trainer Joe Janiak has agreed to parade the champ between races and then let him do an exhibition gallop up the straight. With the configuration of the Lismore parade yard and track, punters will be able to get right up close to this great racehorse.
This will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for the people of Lismore and surrounding districts, with the chances of the horse being available to appear again very unlikely.
This promises to be the highlight to what will be great day at the Lismore Racecourse.
With the recent announcement that the meeting will be run as a TAB program on the new Sky 2 channel, and the Ladies Day promotions on course, a bumper day is expected by the club.
“ We are offering free entry plus a glass of champagne to all ladies and we have great prizes on offer in the Fashions on the Field competition” said Michael Timbrell Secretary/Manager of the Lismore Turf Club.
“The dress theme is Something Pink in honour of The McGrath Foundation which is the charity we are supporting on the day”.
“Tickets are still available in The Pink Tent for only $55 per person including a 2 course smorgasbord luncheon and amazing competitions and prizes, all in support of The McGrath Foundation” Timbrell said.

LISMORE TURF CLUB GETS BONUS TAB DAYS
In an exciting development for country racing in NSW, Sky Channel’s newly launched Sky Racing 2 channel will broadcast one Saturday afternoon NSW Country race meeting each week.
The Lismore Turf Club has been the major beneficiary of this new innovation with three of Lismore’s non-TAB meetings in the next 2 months being converted to Saturday afternoon TAB meetings.
These three meetings are the South Lismore Cup Ladies Day on Saturday 10th April, Southern Cross Uni Cup Day on Saturday 1st May and Kyogle Cup Day on Saturday 22nd May.
These meetings will now become TAB meetings with full TAB betting available on all races. The prizemoney for these races will be increased to a minimum of $5,000 and the program will be expanded from five races to six.
“ This initiative will be a huge boost for country racing and we are very excited and honoured to be given the opportunity to be involved right from the start ” said Michael Timbrell, Secretary/Manager of the Lismore Turf Club.
“ We will be able to showcase our product in the prime Saturday afternoon timeslot, the club will be able to increase the profitability of these days through the TAB dollar and owners and trainers will be able to race for better prizemoney. It is a win-win situation for everyone” Timbrell said.
Trainers are reminded that nominations for Saturday 10th April close at 11.00am on Tuesday 6th April with the program as follows:-
Note:- One race will be divided to make a six race program

EXTRAORDINARY NOMINATIONS FOR LISMORE ON FRIDAY
Racegoers at the Lismore Turf Club’s Professional Investment Services Christmas Cup raceday to be held this Friday 18th December will be guaranteed an afternoon of great racing action.
In a fantastic show of support for the club, owners & trainers have nominated a total of 205 horses for the 8 race program, which almost certainly guarantees full fields plus emergencies in all races.
"This meeting just before Christmas always attracts good support from trainers looking for that special bonus win before the holiday period. Last year the meeting had 152 nominations and we thought that was good, but to break the 200 mark is just incredible. Only a handful of race meetings throughout NSW each year would get so many nominations, so to join that elite group is very satisfying" said Michael Timbrell, Secretary/Manager of the Lismore Turf Club.
"Despite the dry weather our track is in fantastic order. Our groundstaff have been working overtime continually irrigating and we expect to have a first class racing surface on Friday".
Once again this year, Lismore’s last race meeting of 2009 is being held as a "Twilight" event with the first race not being scheduled until 2.20pm and not finishing until 6.40pm.
"We always get an influx of people after 4.00pm with many business closing up slightly early, and with 5 races still to run after 4.00pm we expect the same to happen this year. This always creates a fun and happy crowd atmosphere and is a great way to begin Christmas celebrations for many" said Timbrell.

PRESS RELEASE - BUMPER CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL
Following the Lismore Turf Club’s Annual General Meeting last night, the club is looking forward to a bumper Christmas Carnival to kick start the club's finances.
Ron Marriott was elected unopposed as Chairman for his 9th year and announced that despite posting a considerable loss for the 2008/09 Financial Year, the club was confident of turning things around and enjoying a much better 2010.
"Since the outbreak of E.I. in August 2007 the club has had a number of issues and circumstances outside its control that have contributed to the current financial result. However we are looking forward to an incident free 2010 starting with our annual Christmas Carnival and I urge all Members and racing fans to support the club by attending these meetings" said Mr Marriott.
The first day is on Sunday 6th December and is the Broadwater Cup & Family Christmas Raceday. This very popular day has been given a huge boost by switching to full TAB status with a minimum of 7 races and prizemoney of $9,000 per race.
The event is fully family orientated with the Byron Bay Kidz Club operating free of charge all afternoon, the Monster Toy Giveaway between races and a visit from Santa giving out bags of lollies.
"What better excuse for a family picnic in the beautiful lawns and gardens of the Lismore Racecourse" said Secretary/Manager Michael Timbrell.
"A highlight of the day is always the drawing of prizes in the Monster Toy Giveaway. Entry coupons can be found in the Northern Star between now and Saturday 5th December which people should bring to the track, otherwise all children will receive an entry at the gate."
"We have more than $750 worth of toys to giveaway, plus with the lollies from Santa and the fun of the Byron Bat Kidz Club, every child will go home feeling like a winner", said Timbrell.
Punters will then get another chance to back a winner at the Professional Investment Services Christmas Cup Meeting on Friday 18th December. This meeting will be run as a twilight event with the first of 8 races commencing approx 2.30pm with the final race to be at approx 6.45pm.
"The club has been inundated with bookings for the Christmas Seafood Luncheon and has had to declare the luncheon fully booked, however there will be plenty of facilities for members and the general public to enjoy on the day".
