Lismore Racecourse Drainage Issues |
Following the heavy rains in the late half of 2010 and early 2011 the club has become acutely aware of 2 sections of the track (about 400m in total length) that are showing symptoms of poor drainage that will continue to place race meetings in jeopardy when rain is around. This was the case with the scheduled meeting for 28th January that was relinquished and held at Ballina.
Following a detailed inspection by expert turf maintenance company ‘Turnpoint” the club has applied for funding from the Country Racecourse Development Fund to install a combination of sub-soil and sand groove drainage which will alleviate the problem. At the time of writing negotiations were still underway, however the club is hopeful that work would commence immediately following the 5th March race meeting which would allow the April meetings to go ahead without interruption.

If it is not won then it will jackpot to $800 for the next raceday. Just another reason why it pays to be a member of the Lismore Turf Club.
